This is an amazing spectacle. Having been raised Catholic, and, naturally, having become fairly repulsed by the Church in recent years (especially during the eight-year national nightmare that was the GW Bush regime, when the Catholic Church – the Catholic Church, fer Chrissakes – tacitly supported torture, of all godforsaken things), I still marvel at the diversity of the Catholic community as a whole. For Sen. Kennedy’s grandchildren to pray, within the sanctuary of a Catholic basilica, for gay rights is a fairly remarkable thing. Not that it’s gonna bring me back to the Church any time soon, but it’s a damn cool thing to witness.
