The curious case of Oscar-winning child rapist Roman Polanski continues on its curious way, remarkable for shining a light on public acceptance/denial/numbing/avoidance of certain sexual crimes. Like, um, you know, vaginal rape and anal rape (and oral as well, if memory serves) of a 13 year old child [having softened her up first, as it were, with mind-altering substances, in this case alcohol and pills, the classic date-rape drug combo of choice].
Polanski pleads all the way down next to nothing -- unlawful sex with a minor -- but still, it's just not down far enough for him. How he finds sympathizers is beyond me. It's all about poor persecuted Roman. Who has never had the balls to stand up and say, yes, I drugged and raped that little girl, every which way, and I am one really sick f*ck. I mean, how hard is that?

Well, he is, after all, an auteur--don't they get special dispensations like atleets and congresscritters?
Apparently so. How you doin', demo??
American laws are so out of date. They should be updated to allow murder, torture and yes, even rape, if it can be proven you have had a hard life. Why should these poor victims of American justice like Polanski have to depend on their gross wealth and fame to get out of everything. Make it a constitutional amendment. Rich sad pathetic sacks of shit who have no sense of responsablity or fear of consequence, are already getting away too much already.
I get it - people can say all they want and it doesn't really matter. But what are they French politicians on about goes beyond me! How can they openly sympathize with him? OK, he's got a French passport and OK, he's a great artist, but THAT'S it. If this was a French minor and US artist in question...
Manson follower Susan Atkins who had killed Roman Polanski's wife, Sharon Tate died a couple of days ago and now this announced arrest of Roman Polanski.
What I can't understand is, how did Polanski manage to evade the law all these years with the so called technology of cameras and GPS, etc. There is just NO way that one can hide from the law with all of technology that is out there.
Something is just screwy here. I think the authorities DID know where he was hiding all these years. And one has to question as to why did they decide to arrest him NOW and not arrest him from years ago? Not to mention that this is going to cost taxpayers money for a trial that will drag on for years.
This is another example of how there is no such thing as "justice" in the justice system in the USA. Criminals go free while the innocent and victims get sent to prison.
And when will they get Dick Cheney?
You make a good point about the timing. Apparently, he has traveled to Switzerland many times before.
cb, he wasn't hiding - he was openly living in France. And the French refused to arrest him - they have a lot of leeway on extradition. Polansky is not the first American criminal to find safe haven there.
No Blood For Hubris:
I am doing as well as can be expected of an unenlighted being, with a huge load of karmic detritus, approaching my 60th b'day at a substantial fraction of light speed can be expected to be doing. I am sorry I did not contact you while I was in the Boston area. Truth to tell I only spent about 40 minutes in Cambridge to pick up a couple of cases of Two Buck Chuck at Trader Joe's on Memorial Drive.
Roman Polanski IS a piece of shit. Of course the French also elevated Jerry Lewis to nearGOD status, back in the day.
